Nancy Murakami, LCSW
Nancy Murakami is a clinical social worker who worked on the Thai-Burma border as BBP's first Director of Counseling Training, based at Dr. Cynthia's Mae Tao Clinic, from 2008 to 2010. While on the border, she provided clinical and administrative training, supervision, program and resource development, inter-agency coordination and capacity-building for displaced Burmese communities in Burma and Thailand. Nancy received her master’s degree in social work from Columbia University, with a concentration in international social welfare and program development and evaluation. She conducted post-graduate clinical and programmatic work at Safe Horizon, a New York City crime victims assistance agency, where she received specialized clinical training in therapeutic methods of addressing the impact of psychological trauma on children, adults and families. At the Safe Horizon Anti-Trafficking Program and Counseling Center, Nancy provided therapy to survivors of trauma, torture and human trafficking as well as developed and evaluated program initiatives. Prior to becoming a social worker, Nancy lived in Malawi, Africa, for three years teaching mathematics and leading health and gender-based initiatives in rural communities.
