Elizabeth Call, Psy.D.

Dr. Call runs an independent psychotherapy practice with specialties in trauma, loss, EMDR and mindfulness in Cambridge, Massachusetts.   In addition, she is a senior supervisor at the Trauma Center at the Justice Resource Institute in Brookline, Massachusetts.

She was formerly a staff Psychologist at Massachusetts General Hospital where she specialized in psychological assessment and the full range of trauma related syndromes. She is also a former Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and has lectured nationally and internationally on the effects of trauma and loss on diverse populations.  Her interest in cross cultural psychology developed while working at a community based mental health center in Arizona that specializes in mental health treatment for Native Americans and Latinos.  She has conducted numerous workshops that explore integrating diverse cultures in the workplace and schools.

In 1998, Dr. Call was a consultant and trainer on a UNICEF sponsored project in Bangladesh which aimed to train mental health professionals to do post-trauma counseling.  Her interest in meditation and Buddhist psychology inspired her first visit to Southeast Asia where she studied with Burmese masters.  Since then, she has repeatedly visited the border of Burma and Thailand to work with Burmese and Karen refugees to establish mental health services on the border.  She has conducted workshops, trainings, individual consultations and needs assessments among the refugees and migrant workers on the border.  She is also interested in using photographs to bring to light the plight and resilience of the Burmese refugees.
